It’s Drew with The Gut Program. Today, I want to talk to you about CBD oil for IBS. I’ve been getting a lot of questions recently about CBD oil and how it’s helped me with my IBS symptoms, along with my anxiety. I want to make a quick video for everyone to see. So, for those of you who don’t know, I’ve been battling IBS for a few years now. I didn’t even know it for a long time, and it wasn’t till my girlfriend, and now my wife, told me something was wrong. From there, I went on a year-long journey to find a solution to my IBS issues, during which, I found CBD oil, along with some diet changes, particularly a low-FODMAP diet, in conjunction, really helped me reduce, if not eliminate a lot of my IBS issues and symptoms.
So, for you guys to understand, CBD oil helps in a few different ways. But mainly what it does is help reduce inflammation in the gut. And this has been proven in a few scientific studies that shows that IBS, or CBD oil can help with IBS by reducing the inflammation in the gut. And as you well know, inflammation is a big cause for IBS symptoms. And I’ll link to that study below here.
Keep in mind, it is relatively new. CBD oil isn’t necessarily proven by science, or by doctors yet, but I think the research is there that is going to prove it here in the next few years. The reason why they think it works is because the cannaboid receptors are activated when you use CBD oil, and this leads to a reaction, or this reaction leads to inhibiting in the secretion of gastrointestinal fluid in the gut, which can then obviously reduce that inflammation and kind of target the source of your IBS symptoms.
What I found though in conjunction with that, it also helped me reduce my anxiety, which as you know, IBS and … IBS and anxiety work hand in hand, so a reduction in anxiety really helped me reduce my IBS symptoms as well. It also helped me get to sleep at night, and kind of calms you down. Again, it may not be for everyone, but CBD oil has in fact helped me with my IBS symptoms and issues.
So I wanted to answer a few questions about how I use it. First, a lot of people ask about dosing. And it can be a tricky question because everybody’s different. The few things to keep in mind, you can’t really overdose on it, on CBD oil, but you don’t want to overdo it because it does cost a lot of money, and you don’t want to build up a tolerance to it that you don’t really need to have. So, what I recommend, start slow, work your way up. Once you start seeing some relief, you know, maybe maintain that amount that you’re taking each day. I do about once a day. I’m always testing different brands, so it’s hard for me to say, you know, exactly what I do, but I usually take it about once a day, either the tinctures, or the soft-shells, and I’ll get that here in a little bit.
Just keep in mind how much you take in [inaudible 00:02:56], how many milligrams of CBD oil you bought. It can range anywhere from 15 grams to 3,000 milligrams. Excuse me, 15 milligrams to 3,000 milligrams, so just keep that in mind when you’re looking, and know that the more that you’re using, excuse me, more milligrams means more powerful it is. So just keep that in mind. Like I said, other than that, there’s no major side effects, other than just wasting money and maybe building up a tolerance.
The main question I get a lot is how to take it, and there’s two ways I like to take it. I actually prefer the soft-shells. Soft-shells are just normal pills that you might take. I like it for a few reasons. One is that you actually absorb more of the oil this way, so you get better bang for your buck, and you see symptom relief faster, or not extremely faster, but more symptom relief from it. Also, what I like about the soft-shells is that you can dose it exactly properly, or you know, excuse me, properly. So if you need to take two pills, you know exactly how much you’re getting.
